Irish Network for Education Worldwide

BACKGROUND

We are a network of civil society actors and education stakeholders in Ireland dedicated to advocating for and mobilising efforts to advance Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) and achieve inclusive, equitable, and safe quality education for all worldwide, committed to reaching the furthest behind.

As a membership organisation with over 20 members, we represent a diverse range of Irish development and humanitarian aid organisations focused on education, school and university teacher unions, education providers, and more. The Irish Network for Education Worldwide serves as the Irish Coalition within the Global Campaign for Education (GCE), a global civil society movement championing education as a basic human right.

We act as a national platform for knowledge exchange, dialogue, and collaboration, driving advocacy efforts and influencing policy in Ireland and internationally to realise the right to education worldwide.

CURRENT PROJECTS

Current Campaigns include

  • Urging the Government in our Pre-Budget Submission 2025 to increase the proportion of the ODA budget allocated to education in 2025, ensuring that education remains a priority in Ireland’s development cooperation.
  • Our call on Ireland to sign the COP28 milestone Declaration on the Common Agenda for Education and Climate Change to advance the important dual agenda of the education-Climate Nexus. We call for disaster preparedness and climate education in schools and upskilling teachers while at the same time making the education systems climate resilient.
