BACKGROUND
Creativity & Change nurtures change-makers and supports people to imagine and create a better world. It does this by offering unique educational experiences. Creativity & Change is a programme of Crawford College of Art & Design, a school of Cork Institute of Technology. The programme is based in the Department of Arts in Health & Education at 46 Grand Parade, right in the heart of Cork City. It is funded by Irish Aid's development education unit. We mainly target people who work in adult & community education and youth workers.
In the Creativity & Change programme we believe that creative engagement can support transformative learning experiences that connect the head, hand and heart and nurture competences of global citizens that are important for the sustainable future of our world, competences such as empathy, resilience, critical thinking, problem solving, ability to take action, and compassion.
CURRENT PROJECTS
There are three main strands to the work we do:
1: We offer a year-long post-graduate Level 9 Special Purpose Award (SPA) called Creativity & Change. This course gives participants a grounding in creative approaches to global citizenship education.
2: Deep-dive 2 day skills workshops - "Masterclasses". These unaccredited workshops give participants the chance to learn a specific creative skill that they can use to engage others in global citizenship issues.
3: Direct Engagement work: We work directly with adults and young people from "hard-to-reach" groups in Cork city. These ongoing interactions provide space and creative learning opportunities for these groups to be active on issues of importance to them.
We also collaborate with other organisations on public events, festivals and conferences.
