Mags Liddy

Mags Liddy has worked in social and educational research since 2006. She worked with the Ubuntu Network- Teacher Education for Sustainable Development, for five years. She completed her PhD work on teachers as overseas volunteers at the University of Limerick. Her research interests include global citizenship education and actions for creating a more just and sustainable world. Mags is currently working on a project with UCD’s School of Education on school leadership in Pakistan and India. She is the convenor of IDEA’s Quality and Impact group, providing support to organisations working on development education within the Irish Aid results-based framework.

Recent research projects include:

  • Systematic review of measures of impact arising from development education and global citizenship work. Published as The Impact of Development Education and Education for Sustainable Development Interventions in Environmental Education Research
  • Exploring and expressing characteristic spirit of ETB schools. Undertaken on behalf of ETBI and six regional ETBs in Ireland.
  • Ph.D. research work on the impact of overseas volunteering on Irish teachers on their return to Irish classrooms. Issues included an examination of the translation of learning in to practice, informal experimental learning, and global citizenship work undertaken by the volunteer-teachers.

  • IDEA Research consultant: to engender greater interest in research on development education, including capacity development on evaluation methodologies and the adoption of results based frameworks
  • Rapporteur for DICE Project dialogue on overseas sending programmes for student teachers
  • DCU School of Education: Research interviews for evaluation of alternative access routes into higher education
  • Amnesty Irish Section Human Rights Programme: summative evaluation on completion of three-year funding cycle. evidence gathered using both quantitative and qualitative data
  • Ógra Chorcaí Global Youth work programme: evaluation of development education work, consultation with service users and highlighting recommendations and objectives
