Jim Ferguson

BACKGROUND

Jim Ferguson retired from the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland (NQAI) in 2012 after a career in international education as teacher, teacher educator, school inspector, consultant and government advisor. His work included ten years in Africa and ten in South America.

Since retirement Jim has been involved as a volunteer with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO), Ireland and UK, and Global Campaign for Education (GCE) in Ethiopia, Mozambique and Rwanda. This work has involved working with Ministries of Education and local NGOs on projects related to Education for All (EFA), improved access to education for marginalised groups and improvement in the quality of education.

CURRENT PROJECTS

Jim foresees that DE/Global Citizenship Education and education for conflict resolution, respect for diversity and solidarity will play an increasing role, given recent developments in the countries he has been engaged in.
