Global Action Plan Ireland

BACKGROUND

Global Action Plan Ireland is an environmental education NGO, based in North Dublin. Our education programmes empower schools, youth groups, adult community groups, and businesses across Ireland in hands on education to become active citizens and transform the world around them by caring for both people and the environment. Our interactive and participant-led workshops help the public take meaningful action in their own lives to support sustainable living.

CURRENT PROJECTS

  • Action on Global Citizenship is aimed at post-primary teachers and their students. Funded by Worldwise Global Schools, this programme approaches action on climate therough a development education lens, exploring global justice and inequality, and motivating students to take action on local issues. Through this project we have developed a toolkit and trained teachers on its use in schools.
  • Action on Global Goals is our offering for the adult and community education sector. Taking the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals as a starting point, this programme empowers groups to tackle the challenges they experience in their local areas. We particularly aim to engage with underserved and disadvantaged communities, who may not have connected with development education in the past.
  • Our GLAS Community Garden in Ballymun serves as a DPSM accredited outdoor learning environment to enrich and connect to nature, and appreciate and understand the natural world around us, and our role in protecting it. In a safe and shared space different generations of people learn to grow, maintain and harvest organic fruits and vegetables together in a community setting.
