CBM Ireland

BACKGROUND

CBM is a Christian international development organisation, committed to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the poorest countries of the world.

We exist because in situations of extreme hardship, war, famine, drought, and natural disaster, people with disabilities are always at the back of the queue. Poverty and disability go hand in hand creating a cycle of inequality, isolation, and exclusion that leads to the most extreme forms of poverty.

Our vision is for an inclusive world in which all persons with disabilities enjoy their human rights and achieve their full potential. With over 100 years of professional expertise, CBM addresses poverty as a cause, and a consequence, of disability, and works in partnership to create a society for all.

CURRENT PROJECTS

The foundation of CBM Ireland’s strategy is underpinned by the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and guided by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which provides the road map to tackling poverty.

CBM Ireland works with NGOs and Development Education organisations to mainstream accessibility and disability inclusion into their work, in order to ensure equal access to development education initiatives and to raise awareness among the Irish public of the vicious cycle of poverty and disability.
